Ford Recall Alert: Engine Block Heater Fire Risk Affects Certain Ford Vehicles

Ford Motor Company has announced a safety recall of approximately 119,000 Ford and Lincoln vehicles due to a potential engine block heater fire risk, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Why Is Ford Issuing This Recall?

The recall involves a defect in certain engine block heaters that may develop cracks over time. If coolant enters the electrical components while the block heater is plugged in, it could cause a short circuit, increasing the risk of an under-hood fire.

Although no injuries have been reported, Ford issued the recall proactively to ensure customer safety.

Which Ford Vehicles Are Affected?

According to the NHTSA, the recall includes select Ford and Lincoln models equipped with 2.0L engines and engine block heaters, including:

  • 2013–2018 Ford Focus

  • 2013–2019 Ford Escape

  • 2015–2016 Lincoln MKC

  • 2019 and 2024 Ford Explorer

Not all vehicles within these model years are affected. The best way to know for sure is to check your VIN number.

What Should Ford Owners Do Now?

If your vehicle is part of this Ford engine block heater recall, Ford recommends:

  • Do not plug in the engine block heater until repairs are completed

  • Watch for an official recall notice from Ford, expected to begin mailing in February 2026
